hello there,
i've never ever used a forum… i'll spend some days in london and oxford next month and i thought it'd be a good idea to ask for some recommendations for clubs, pubs etc. by locals. anyone?
thanks!

Hi Katschunka!
nice to see you on here…
I don't know of many pubs round bayswater, but the West End (Oxford St) isn't that far,you could get a bus along to Oxford St,then you could go along to Piccadilly Circus/Leicester Square area, lots of pubs round there.

pubs around piccadilly circus and leicester square are probably crowded by tourists? well, i'm a tourist as well but i'd like to go somewhere off the beaten track and i don't mind taking the night bus and stuff

There're a lot of pubs in Bayswater and it's near to Notting Hill and Hyde Park too, anyway you could get the tube (there're 2 stations: Bayswater and Queensway, just a few stops to Piccadilly Circus, Oxford Street, Covent Garden etc etc etc), that's the fastest way to go around the city
I'm italian but I love London and I know Bayswater very well

Difficult to find somewhere off the beaten track that isn't touristy,
in London. Most pubs will be pretty crowded.

I love Camden, nice pubs and clubs and it's great for shopping too.
Oh, and I spent a nice/wild night at The Borderline last time I've been to London, it's near the old Astoria.

Is Camden still the place to go? Does the Good Mixer still exist?
I went to a pub in Oxford once - it had a weird name but I don't remember what it was … But I have fond memories of a certain singer walking in with his “muse”.

Around The Angel Islington isn't bad, they have a lot more bars/nightlife then they used to. Apparently Upper Street is the 'New west end' but i'm not so sure

thanks for your comments - it was bath, book and bed-time for my son, but now i'm back
i've been around bayswater and camden and brick lane etc. and i think i'll just try my luck. i'm travelling alone but when i think back to the aftershow party at the forum, it seems like the british like to connect
do you know the indie travel guide where bands introduce you to their hometown? don't know if it is published in the uk. the old blue last in bethnal green seams to be nice.
antje, i'll look for the strange pub in oxford, should be easy to find as it is a small city

The pub was next to the Carling Academy.
I have the Indie Travel Guide right here on my desk but I haven't read it yet.

The Good Mixer is still there. Still looks like it gets quite busy in there.
