It would be an understatement to say that the Queen’s Head Tent at Glastonbury was packed for the opening set of the festival…in fact Maximo Park drew such a crowd that the gig was delayed for 30 minutes whilst security had to close off entry to the arena and put up barriers to control the huge amounts of fans all vying for a position to watch the lads kick off Glasto 2009 in style. Q Magazine estimated that there were 60,000 people watching the ‘Park, that’s three quarters of the people who were on site at that time!

For those who didn’t get into the tent, the gig was shown on screens around the festival and all of the lucky festival goers were treated to a setlist that had been hand picked by you guys, the fans, via the Maximo Park Facebook page.

So, even if you weren’t there, if you voted for your favourite songs, you were a part of this historic Maximo gig! You’re probably gagging to know if half of Glasto got to hear YOUR ultimate Maximo tune so here you go, chosen specially by you lot, they played:

‘A19′
‘By The Monument’
‘The Kids Are Sick Again’
‘Limassol’
‘Graffiti’
‘History Books’
‘Books From Boxes’
‘Overland’
‘Apply Some Pressure’
‘Going Missing’
‘Our Velocity’

All the buzz and excitement made for a truly awesome gig, with a sweaty crowd going crazy, all crammed into the small tent. Paul talked about it to the BBC: “…we came on and it was a brilliant reaction, at the end of it was just chaos - it was a pretty cool Glastonbury moment…”

Go here to watch a video on the BBC website of Paul and Lukas talking about the gig and see these links for some good pics:

Maximo Park Glastonbury 2
Maximo Park Glastonbury 3
Maximo Park Glastonbury 4

The lads also played The Other Stage on Saturday and rocked that one too, trashing their instruments at the end in true rock star style! Go here to watch a half hour video of the highlights of the set.

Can't watch anything as always. I hate BBC. There're other people in this World, not just brits. Still angry.

I didn't even try when I read BBC, may have thrown my PC out of the window if I had read “not available in your area” once more Laugh

Although I feel your frustration Londy, I agree there is other people in the world, not just Brits but they don't have to fork up the sum of £142.50 a year just for the privilege of recieving BBC…(its funded by the British public) or infact owning a TV in the first place. Its what the goverment call the TV license fee and it SUCKS big time!Cry

Don't you have this in Italy? I guess as they spend publically funded money, it comes with restrictions. Not everyone can view what they broadcast or stream….just a guess.

We have the same in Germany, my post wasn't against the BBC in general, I wouldn't understand if the German equivalent (ARD and ZDF) was??? is?? (I don't know actually) limited to Germans either. It's a bit weird in the year 2009 and the age of the internet (I know MTV does the same thing, duh.)

Lukas just sent out my favourite tweet of the Glasto-weekend Laugh

Just got home to receive this fatherly email: “Lukas have you gone crazy smashing up your equipment. I don't think there's anything new…”

Actually, Miss F, I don't think it's due to how the BBC is funded. I suspect it's a licensing thing because I can't watch MTV UK stuff either. And there's American things I can't watch. And there are Canadian things that non-Canadians can't watch…

Et cetera…

My favourite part of the footage is where Paul sings “wide eyes see it all” in Questing and gives Archis a right fright! Reckon he was in sleep mode behind those shades!
